A test at Winton next month will help Taz Douglas decide if he is ready to return to V8 Supercars racing.
In January this year, Douglas, 25, was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma, a type of cancer of the lymphatic system.
After three months of chemotherapy, Douglas is on the mend and aiming to get back behind the wheel of his white #92 Fastaz Commodore VE.
The Victorian has a test day booked in at Winton on June 21, and he told Speedcafe.com.au that if he is comfortable and fit, he’ll compete in the next round at Townsville.
“I’ve got the test booked, and if the test goes well, then I’m on for Townsville,” he said.
“I’m excited, I really am, but I’m excited to be alive as well. To be honest, I’m excited to be doing something else other than sitting around doing nothing expect feeling sorry for myself!
“I’ll start training pretty soon. I’m back at the workshop now and I’m feeling pretty good, considering what my body has been through.”
For his comeback race, Douglas will use an engine and sequential gearbox race-prepared by Kelly Racing. He takes delivery of those next week.
Also, as a special treat for himself, Douglas has to get a fresh paint scheme on his helmet.
The fourth round of the Fujitsu V8 Series at Townsville will be held on July 9-11.
