Dale Wood and Nick Percat have both received points penalties following contact during and after Race 21 at Sydney Motorsport Park on Saturday.

Percat has been docked 25 points for ‘careless driving’ after spinning Wood in the race’s early stages while the pair battled for 21st place.

Contact occurred at Turn 7 as the Brad Jones Racing Holden turned in on Percat, who had dived to the inside.

Rejoining the road to finish 24th, Wood caught up to Percat on the slowdown lap, initiating further side-to-side contact that damaged the steering on the LDM entry.

That action has earned Wood a 35 point penalty for ‘reckless driving’.

The on-track aggravation spilled over to the paddock post-race when Percat, enraged by the slowdown lap incident, confronted Wood in the BJR team garage.

The South Australian made several references to his rival’s sponsorship deals in an expletive laden exchange captured by television cameras.

“You and David Wall, the cash cows of the category, turn in on everyone… you’ve got no ability mate,” Percat was heard to say.

Percat further explained his frustrations in the aftermath of the confrontation

“Generally the way with him, and a few other people who are here on different reasons … we can’t go through side-by-side like everyone else does, he just turns in,” he told V8TV.

“He would’ve been up the inside at the next corner, it’s not worth racing like that.

“And on the in-lap he’s come up next to me and nailed me in the front wheel, bent the steering, ripped the wheel out of my hand and smashed the exhaust.

“So I’ve asked him to come fix my car as well as his with his money, so it’ll be good.”

Wood stressed his respect for Percat but questioned the exchange in the garage.

“I felt like we got turned around and I don’t know, he has to come down here and make a fool of himself,” he said.

“I think he’s a great driver and does a good job but we’re racing cars and we’re going to come together (at some point).”

Percat and Wood retain 19th and 22nd in the standings respectively after their penalties.

Stewards meanwhile established no breach of rules from a hectic opening lap to Race 22, having investigated contact between Jason Bright and Rick Kelly and also Bright and Garth Tander.
