American-based Australian racer James Davison has been given a rare opportunity to drive a 2003-spec Ferrari Formula 1 car at Homestead in Florida.
Davison had a chance to turn a handful of laps in the F2003-GA as part of the Ferrari Corse Clienti program.
“Can’t explain how incredible it is to drive. So far superior to any other racecar I’ve driven including IndyCar,” Davison said of the experience in the Ferrari.
“The F2003 was incredible. Only did 5 laps, regardless it was a dream experience and will get to drive it again sometime.”
The F2003-GA (named in honour of the head of Fiat, Gianni Agnelli, who died in January 2003) used a 3 litre V10 engine and recorded 7 wins from 12 races.
The opportunity came after Davison recently competed in an ex-Riccardo Patrese 1978 Arrows FA1 on the Masters Historic Racing class on the undercard at the US and Mexican F1 races.
Davison is working on broadening his horizons next season by attempting to do more NASCAR Xfinity road course races following his debut in the #90 King Autosport Chevrolet at Road America in late August.
The successful IMSA and Pirelli World Challenge racer and two-times Indy 500 starter will travel to Homestead for the NASCAR finale in two weeks in an attempt to work on more opportunities in the second-tier stock car class for 2017.
At Road America, Davison ran as high as eighth before finishing 19th in the 48-lap affair.
