Tickets for the next year’s Adelaide 500 are not expected to go on sale until November as event organisers attempt to secure a new long-term deal with a naming rights sponsor.

A report from the Advertiser has confirmed that the South Australian government is in discussions to land a title sponsor for the annual Supercars season opener.

It claims that SA Tourism minister David Ridgway told Budget Estimates that a new naming rights partner would soon sign a long-term deal.

This year saw the event run without a major sponsor following the departure of electrical accessories supplier Clipsal which has been synonymous with the event having sponsored the race since 2000.

Speedcafe.com understands that discussions with a prospective backer failed to come to fruition in time for the 2018 event.

Tickets are expected to put on sale in November shortly after the planned official launch no matter the outcome of the current sponsor talks.

The report also cites this year’s state election as a contributing reason for the delay.

“The SATC (South Australian Tourism Commission) is continuing to have discussions around naming rights sponsorship of the Adelaide 500 and are hopeful that we will have positive news in the coming months. Tickets are expected to go on sale, late October/early November,” read a statement issued to Speedcafe.com from the South Australian Tourism Commission.

Next year’s Adelaide 500 is due to be held from February 28-March 3.
