Alex Davison

Alex Davison will rejoin Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport at this weekend’s Red Rooster Sydney Super Sprint and the upcoming Pirtek Enduro Cup.

The 37-year-old returned to the Supercars grid for the first time since 2015 last month after securing a deal to race for the Melbourne team at the Coates Hire Ipswich Super Sprint.

Davison became the fifth driver to race the #3 Holden Commodore this season following in the footsteps of Taz Douglas, Matthew Brabham, Cameron McConville and Aaren Russell.

The Carrera Cup Australia driver remained tight-lipped regarding his future at the team following the Ipswich round.

However, Davison has confirmed he will remain behind the wheel at Sydney and the three enduros.

The former Supercars full-timer is yet to learn whether he will drive the #3 or join Alex Rullo in the #62 entry for the Wilson Security Sandown 500, Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and Vodafone Gold Coast 600 races.

Russell is set to become the primary driver of the #3 entry at Bathurst as part of a three event deal, which included the Townsville 400 and November’s Coates Hire Newcastle 500 season finale.

“It is really exciting to have a deal for the enduros which was the aim overall, and for that to include the two sprint races in Ipswich and Sydney as well is as good a preparation as you can get,” Davison told Speedcafe.com.

“It is unusual to have the opportunity in the lead up to the enduro rounds.

“It hasn’t been an ideal scenario for LDM not to have a full-time driver in the car but on the upside it has given me really good preparation.”

Davison hopes a run out in this year’s Pirtek Enduro Cup, after being absent last season, will kick-start his co-driving career.

“Regardless of the situation you always want to be out there and get the best drive you can, so the first thing was just having a drive for this year,” he added.

“The second aspect to it is that it was not ideal to miss out on a drive at the enduros last year and it was very important that if there was an opportunity for this year that I take it.

“Hopefully it will help get things kick-started a little bit.”

Davison says he is yet to discuss the possibility of remaining with the team for the ITM Auckland 400 (November 3-5) after the enduros.
