The Australian Motor Racing Series has adjusted its inaugural calendar in order to eliminate a clash with the 2018 Supercars finale in Newcastle.
The Winton round has been moved forward a week and while it will now clash with Rally Australia, it gives AMRS far more clear air in terms of circuit racing.
While Mallala remains on the same date, it has at least avoided a further clash with Shannons Nationals.
The CAMS-run series will open its season a week later at Tailem Bend, a departure from previous years, with all six of its rounds falling away from AMRS rounds.
AMRS has also announced another new category, GT Lites, aimed at owners of GT and sportscars.
Organiser Wayne Williams is bullish about AMRS’ prospects given early interest in the series.
“Not only have we been inundated with requests from categories wanting to be part of the series, the categories themselves have been blown away by the expressions of interest from competitors wanting to race,” said Williams.
“We’ve also had to create the GT Lites category because of the high demand from sports car owners wanting to enjoy the value for money, track time and exposure provided by the AMRS.”
A dozen categories will run at the opening round in Winton in March, namely the Mazda RX8 Cup Series, Group 4 Touring Cars/Super Six Touring Cars, Aussie Racing Utes, Australian Formula 3 Premier Series, Australian Formula Ford Series, Miniature Race Cars, IROC/Classic Porsche, Victorian TT Series, TA2 Series, Vic Super Karts, Legend Cars, and Stock Cars.
GT Lites will feature at the other five rounds.
AMRS management has also confirmed that Blend Line TV will provide live streaming from each round.
