Australia will not feature on the FIA Formula E Championship 2015/2016 calendar despite the all-electric series holding talks with two potential host cities.
Currently enjoying its inaugural campaign visiting 10 city street circuits, Formula E has been in talks with local promoters to add an Australasian venue to its schedule.
Although still keen to expand into Australia, the championship is set to table a draft calendar to the FIA at the World Motor Sport Council in Doha this week excluding a visit down under.
The calendar is not expected to be officially confirmed until June next year.
Adelaide’s Parklands circuit emerged as a leading contender with the South Australian Motorsport Board confirming to Speedcafe.com that discussions to host a round of the championship had taken place.
Chief executive Mark Warren admitted in June that if an agreement was reached the race would be held either a week before or after V8 Supercars marquee Clipsal 500 event in February 2016.
Formula E is adopting a similar procedure with its event at Long Beach in April by hosting a race two weeks prior the prestigious IndyCar Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
While the South Australian Motorsport Board were initially keen to explore the possibility it appears talks have stalled at this stage although a future race has not been ruled out.
“There hasn’t been any updates. We spoke about it a little while ago but since then there hasn’t been any discussions or plans to add them to the line up,” said a Clipsal 500 spokesman.
“I guess with anything we don’t want to rule anything out, but with Formula E in particular there hasn’t been any movement with that.”
