The crowd attendance record for the Bathurst 1000 has been smashed, with over 200,000 people attending the four day celebration event.
This four-day crowd breaks the former attendance record of 2006, which saw 193,647 converge on the mountain, just a month after the death of Peter Brock.
The total crowd figure for the event is 207,205, comparing favourably to last year’s figure of 179,939. The breakdown per day is as follows; Thursday: 46,250; Friday: 48,373; Saturday: 54,643; and Sunday: 57,939.
V8 Supercars CEO David Malone praised those in attendance for helping to celebrate the 50th year of The Great Race at Bathurst.
“It was very clear right from Thursday that this weekend was going to be something very, very special,” Malone said.
“From day one everybody has been commenting on how many people are here and that has really shown in the final numbers. The whole track is packed, the campgrounds are buzzing and today people started coming in at 2am this morning, extraordinary.
“It has been a wonderful weekend and I am particularly proud of the thousands of families that have come along and really enjoyed themselves. The atmosphere has been absolutely tremendous.”
