The change of regulations for next year’s V8 Supercars Championship will not stop Brad Jones Racing from continuing in the Dunlop Series in 2013.
While some ‘Main Series’ teams have not committed to continuing their Dunlop Series entries using current-specification chassis, BJR intends to remain in the series, and possibly with two cars, if suitable budgets can be sourced.
The Albury-based squad currently enters former class champion and its endurance driver Andrew Jones in the development series. After five rounds, he sits 12th overall.
“In an ideal world, you’d have enough money to run two cars and you’d run your co-drivers in both those cars all year,” team owner Kim Jones told Speedcafe.com.
“That all depends on funding, but the way things are going, we’ll have enough money to one car for Andrew next year.
“It’s all about commercial reality and having enough money to do it. We’re doing it on bare bones, but the reason we want to stay in the series is that it sharpens everything up for the co-driver.”
Jones says the logistics of remaining in the Dunlop Series next year will be testing, given that the transfer of data and parts will not be as free flowing as they are now with the introduction of Car of the Future.
“Next year, things will be logistically different because the engines out of our Car of the Future cars will not fit straight into the current cars,” he said.
“There will be times when, depending on budget, that Andrew will only have one engine at a meeting, so if he has an issue, that will end his weekend.”
Ford Performance Racing’s Chaz Mostert currently leads the Dunlop Series, with the penultimate round to be held at Winton Motor Raceway on November 16-18.
