Bobby Jane will remain in the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series this year, postponing plans to move into V8 Supercars’ second-tier Dunlop Series.
Jane, son of Australian touring car legend Bob Jane, finished sixth in his rookie Kumho Series assault last year – the first in a multi-year development deal with car preparer Terry Wyhoon.
While the FG Falcon campaigned by Shane van Gisbergen in 2012 had been purchased for Jane to drive in the Dunlop Series, Wyhoon has confirmed that Jane’s planned graduation has been delayed.
Wyhoon himself will join Jane in the Kumho field having stepped out of the category to make way for Jane following a victorious 2011 campaign.
“I’d like him to do another year in the Kumho Series,” said Wyhoon of Jane.
“I met with Bob and his (Bobby’s) mother Laree and I think it’s the best decision. It’s a long-term project and relationship with Bobby. It’s not a step back, it’s a step sideways.
“I’d like him to gather a bit more experience. Everyone is champing at the bit to get in and drive the new wave of cars in the Development Series, but we need to stay calm, do some more Kumho Series racing and build his experience.”
Jane will continue in the ex-Stone Brothers Racing BF Falcon that he drove in 2012, while Wyhoon moves into another ex-SBR chassis recently purchased from Matt Stone Racing.
The 2013 Kumho V8 Touring Car Series will kick-off with the Shannons Nationals at Sydney Motorsport Park on March 23-24.
