John Bowe has continued his blinding run in the Touring Car Masters, winning both races at Queensland Raceway today.
The two-time Bathurst 1000 winner had a tough dice with Andrew Miedecke’s Camaro in the reverse top 10 Race 2 and was eventually able to pass him to take the win.
In Race 3, Bowe trailed Jim Richards for the majority of the distance, only to watch Richards pull out of the lead and into pit lane on the penultimate lap, ensuring Bowe took a surprising, yet dominant clean sweep.
The Mustang driver was pleased with the result, considering that his Savy Motorsports team-mates Les Walmsley and Keith Kassulke completed the overall podium.
“A great weekend for me and the whole Savy Motorsport team.
“We’ve all worked so hard to make Mustang ‘Sally’ take to this resurfaced track and it has all paid off.
“I was disappointed that Jim (Richards) ended with retirement because he was driving really well and the Javelin is now so fast and deserving of race wins.
“It’s been a real treat to work with the Savy crew, and both Les (Walmsley) and Keith (Kassulke) are just outstanding drivers and guys who very much deserve the great results we’ve seen here.”
In the final results, Race 2 saw Bowe and Miedecke ahead of Richards, Walmsley, Kassulke, Bill Pye, Tony Karanfilovski, Mark King, Chris Stillwell and Tony Edwards.
After Richards’ demise from Race 3, Bowe won from Eddie Abelnica, Walmsley, Kassulke, Edwards, Pye, category debutant Greg Crick, Brett Youlden, King and Stillwell.
Miedecke retired from the race with a mechanical problem.
The next round of the Touring Car Masters will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park, headlining the annual Touring Car Masters on September 1-2.
