Preston Hire Racing has confirmed it will offer new Pirtek Enduro Cup driver Jason Bright laps in practice during this weekend’s OTR SuperSprint at The Bend Motorsport Park.

Bright is set to jump behind the wheel of the #18 ZB Commodore at the South Australia venue to help acclimatise to the car after landing a late call up for the enduros.

The former Supercars full-timer was drafted into the squad as a replacement for Matthew Brabham.

Having sat on the sidelines since announcing his retirement form Supercars, Bright has limited miles under his belt this year.

The 45-year-old logged laps in the Preston Hire Racing Holden during a ride day at Sydney Motorsport Park two weeks ago and is due to make his racing return as a guest driver in the Toyota 86 Racing Series this weekend.

“(It is) always exciting to go to a place we have never raced at before,” said team owner Charlie Schwerkolt of The Bend.

“We are back on the hard compound tyre and with no data from previous years, it should make it an even playing field for all teams.

“We are going to share the practice session with our new enduro driver Jason Bright, to get as many miles as possible under his belt before the upcoming Pirtek Enduro Cup.”

Bright will share the car with primary driver Lee Holdsworth who is eagerly awaiting the prospect of the new Tailem Bend circuit that could level the playing field this weekend.

“(I’m) pretty excited about heading to another new race track,” said Holdsworth.

“(It) should be a massive challenge for all teams given no one has any prior data or set-up knowledge.

“I believe it gives Preston Hire Racing a better opportunity to shine so I’m pumped to get the round underway.”

Opening practice at the OTR SuperSprint is due to begin on Friday at 1045 local time.
