Matt Campbell will head to the next round of the Porsche Supercup at the Red Bull Ring in Austria full of confidence after a starring role at the same track during the Carrera Cup Deutschland event.
Campbell, who was making a guest appearance in the German series, added a third-place finish to go along with his victory in the opening race of the weekend.
Starting from pole position, Campbell slipped to second behind fellow Porsche Junior racer Dennis Olsen off the start.
The Queenslander quickly reeled-in the Norwegian before the first of two Safety Cars was called for a beached car in the gravel.
Olsen got the jump on the re-start, before Campbell started to gain again. However, a two-car incident brought out the Safety Car.
Campbell got a better re-start and was pressing Olsen. However, he had his eye in the mirror with Englishman Nick Yelloly. Then with two laps to run Yelloly got through to second.
“It was positive and good practice for when we came here for Supercup.” Said Campbell.
“I have been happy with the weekend; we won the race on Saturday and had a pole for the second race.
“We next come here for the Supercup and hopefully we can continue the momentum from this weekend and push hard for a podium at that event.”
Campbell’s performance in a field of 31-cars was outstanding; especially against the likes of Olsen who has been the dominant driver in the German Carrera Cup Series.
The 2016 Carrera Cup Australia champion will return to the Red Bull Ring for the Porsche Supercup over the Austrian Formula One Grand Prix weekend of 7-9 July.
