Campbell went under the Carrera Cup practice lap record

Matt Campbell has set a scorching pace during practice for the Carrera Cup at Mount Panorama.

Campbell broke the practice lap record by just under a tenth during the second practice after setting the benchmark time in the first session.

Overall he was only just 0.0823 ahead of multiple champion Craig Baird, with David Russell next best.

Nick Foster and Richard Muscat, who both only arrived back in Australia last night after attending the Porsche Scholarship shootout in Germany, were fourth and sixth respectively.

In two relatively straightforward sessions, the only hiccups went the way of Fraser Ross who made light contact with the rear of his Porsche against the concrete, while John Martin had a ride through the gravel trap.

In the Tag Heuer Carrera Challenge points leader Shane Smollen was fastest in both sessions from Tony Bates and Stephen Grove.
