Two drivers will make their Carrera Cup Australia debuts in the fifth round of the 2014 season at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend.
Local Greg Taylor steps up to the Carrera Cup with David Wall Racing’s new squad after a recent outing in the second-tier GT3 Cup Challenge.
Taylor earlier this year purchased the Type 991 Porsche used by Dean Koutsoumidis in the opening two rounds of the season.
The car was initially slated to appear in Townvsille with Barton Mawer at the wheel before Taylor made his maiden appearance next year.
“I’ve made the Sydney Motorsport Park round the focus for my Carrera Cup debut,” said Taylor, who has received direct tutelage from V8 Supercars driver Wall at the venue ahead of his debut.
“I was originally going to start in Carrera Cup next year but nothing substitutes getting in the car and having a go.
“I’m very excited about this weekend at the track that I’ve driven the most miles.”
Scott Taylor, no relation, too moves up to the Carrera Cup following a stint in the GT3 Cup Challenge, where he campaigns a McElrea Racing prepared, ex-Nick Percat Type 997.
Also in the Elite Class, Taylor will have a brand new Type 991 at his disposal.
“GT3 Cup Challenge has enabled me to understand and appreciate what it takes to drive a Porsche because they’re different than any other car,” said Taylor.
“It wasn’t hard adapting to the new car at all which will help this weekend. It’s ergonomically much better and I certainly feel very comfortable in the new car.”
With Elite Class stalwart Marc Cini absent due to holidays, a 23-car field will take to SMP this weekend.
Steven Richards and Warren Luff sit on equal points at the top of the standings following the most recent round in Townsville.
