Matt Chahda Motorsport is in “pretty cool company” after mixing it with some of Supercars’ biggest teams in Round 1 of the Dunlop Super2 Series, says team manager Amin Chahda.
Matt Chahda occupies fourth in the standings after race results of seventh and a career-best fourth at Mount Panorama, a weekend when he was in the thick of the action at the front of the field.
Ahead of him on the points table is Jordan Boys, from the Erebus Motorsport-aligned Image Racing team; Zak Best from Tickford Racing; and Broc Feeney from Triple Eight Race Engineering; while the Albury driver is tied with Triple Eight’s other steerer, Angelo Mouzouris.
“It’s pretty cool, isn’t it?” remarked Amin Chahda.
“We’re in pretty cool company.”
Matt Chahda was particularly strong in the latter race of the weekend, jumping well from eighth on the grid to be challenging Feeney for fourth on the opening lap.
He took the chequered flag in fifth spot, just behind Best, but inherited a position once Feeney was penalised for contact with Jayden Ojeda.
“He put on the drive of his career, I reckon,” declared Amin.
“He was fast at the end there.
“We’re rapt, and he had them on pace too, so it wasn’t just a fluke that he was up there.
“He had pace, genuine pace, because Broc Feeney came up to him after the race and goes, ‘Mate, all I could see was that bonnet getting bigger and bigger in my mirror; I knew you were coming.”
The performance also attracted attention from the wider population in Albury, in the wash-up to the event.
“As a little team, we are absolutely stoked, and the whole community around here…” added Amin.
“I go for coffee downtown and people are walking up and congratulating us, guys that have been watching it, so it’s pretty good.
“It sort of makes it worthwhile.”
Round 2 of the Super2 Series supports the Winton SuperSprint on May 29-30.
