Wilson Security Racing driver Fabian Coulthard is a free agent and looks poised to switch V8 Supercar teams next year.
Australian Auto Action reports today that Walkinshaw Racing is courting the New Zealander to replace Paul Dumbrell, who has been linked to switch to The Bottle-O backed Ford Performance Racing entry next year.
Walkinshaw Racing recently confirmed that its sponsor Bundaberg Red Rum had taken its option to back the Holden team for another year, and Coulthard could become the driver of that car. Current Bundaberg driver David Reynolds is believed to be likely to stay within the WR fold.
Coulthard is currently locked into a driving contract with his current employer Paul Cruickshank Racing, but he told Speedcafe that he has been allowed to look around.
“PC (Cruickshank) has given me the opportunity to talk the other teams,” Coulthard told Speedcafe.
“I guess that if there’s a team that provide me an opportunity to win the championship, he’ll let me go.
“I’m in the box seat. I’ve got a deal for next year, but if something better comes along, then I might have options.
“I have no reason for me to be worried at this stage.”
Talk of Coulthard being courted by other V8 teams has been lingering around the Supercar paddock since Sandown in July this year, but the growing speculation around him now suggests a decision won’t be too far away …
