Covers come off Todd Kelly’s Nissan Altima

Todd Kelly’s brand new Nissan Altima will sport an eye-catching new colour scheme in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship this season.

The #7 Nissan Motorsport entry features a predominately blue and black livery with motoring website carsales.com.au continuing as title sponsor.

The familiar carsales blue has been emblazoned on the side of Kelly’s Altima since the brand first featured at the 2015 Sandown 500.

As previously reported, Kelly will debut a new chassis this year which will be the 37-year-old’s first since the Nissan factory program began in 2013.

The new rig completed its permitted 60km shakedown at Winton last week ahead of today’s tyre test at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Todd Kelly’s livery reveal follows the unveiling of Altimas for team-mates Rick Kelly, Michael Caruso and rookie Simona de Silvestro.

“The new carsales Racing Nissan looks unreal, and the team has done a fantastic job to get the car built over the off-season,” said Kelly, who finished 14th in the championship standings last year.

“It’s really exciting to start the year in a new car; especially considering it’s (chassis number) 007, which I’m a big fan of.

“We had a shakedown last week and the car feels great, so we’ll aim to learn as much as we can today before the season gets underway.”

Today’s test will also allow Kelly to evaluate the new 2017 specification Dunlop tyres and work alongside new engineer Dilan Talabani, who has joined the Braeside operation from Prodrive.

“Everyone is keen to know as much as they can about these new tyres, so the first round in Adelaide will be pretty exciting to watch,” he added.

“We had them available at our shakedown last week but chose not to use them then.

“Everyone will have been thinking about tyres in the off-season, so we’ll soon see who has figured them out first.”

The 2017 Supercars season begins at the Clipsal 500, Adelaide from March 2-5.
