Antonio Felix da Costa secured his maiden FIA Formula E victory in a race littered with incidents on the streets of Buenos Aires.
The single-seater ace only inherited the lead in the closing stages of the race having kept out of trouble which befell his rivals.
Aguri driver Da Costa was joined on the podium by e.dams’ Nicolas Prost and China Racing’s Nelson Piquet Jnr.
Polesitter Sebastien Buemi had comfortably led the early stages of the race only for the e.dams driver to find the barrier at Turn 10.
The crash occurred just moments after Karun Chandhok’s car had been cleared from the scene after the Indian suffered a rear suspension failure.
Lucas di Grassi emerged as the new leader but his time at the front was short-lived as he also found the Turn 10 barrier two laps later.
The shake up saw Nick Heidfeld take the lead from Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird with da Costa third but the order was set to change again.
Heidfeld was issued with a pit lane speeding penalty while Bird was handed a drive through penalty for ignoring a red light at the pit lane exit.
As a result, da Costa moved into the lead on the penultimate lap with the Portuguese driver left to fend off Andretti Autosport’s Jean-Eric Vergne.
Da Costa managed to stay calm under pressure to eventually take the chequered flag for his first win in the electric series.
All eyes were on the battle for the remaining podium positions which saw Prost and Piquet muscle their way past Jaime Alguersuari and Vergne to finish second and third.
Alguersuari came home in fourth ahead of Bruno Senna, Vergne and Bird, who managed to recover to seventh after his penalty.
Nick Heidfeld finished eighth while Oriol Servia and Stephane Sarrazin rounded out the top 10.
Desite his retirement, di Grassi continues to lead the championship from Bird albeit with a reduced 10 point margin.
The championship heads to Miami for round five on March 14.
