Australian international sportscar and GT ace David Brabham has ruled out racing V8 Supercars full-time in the future.
The 46-year-old has been a regular feature in the V8 Supercars endurance races in recent years, and will again drive with Alex Davison in the IRWIN Tools Falcon at Bathurst this month.
Currently racing in the FIA GT1 World Championship for Nissan team Sumo Power, Brabham told Speedcafe.com’s Jack’s 10 Questions segment that a full-time V8 Supercars drive has never been on his radar.
“It’s never really been part of my program, expect for coming down to do the endurance races, which I love doing,” said Brabham.
“I’ve lived in England since 1988, my family are there… so for me to come and do full-time Aussie V8s would mean a big move for my family – we’d all have to come down here.
“I’ve been so entrenched in European racing and American racing – that’s really my niche over there.”
Brabham’s international career has netted 24 Grand Prix starts for the now defunct Brabham and Simtek teams, an outright Le Mans 24 Hours victory (2009), two Le Mans 24 Hours GT1 class wins (2007 and 2008), two American Le Mans Series titles (2009 and 2010), an All-Japan GT Championship crown (1996) and the British Formula 3 Championship (1989).
The son of triple World Drivers’ Champion Jack Brabham, David also tasted success in the 1997 Bathurst 1000 (for Super Tourers) alongside brother Geoff.
