David Reynolds has taken a career first V8 Supercars pole position ahead of Race 15 at the Sucrogen Townsville 400 this afternoon.
The Bottle-O Racing Falcon driver’s 1:12.58s lap proved 0.07s quicker than team-mate Mark Winterbottom’s best effort.
The two drivers set the laps during their first green tyre runs, having both failed to improve on their final runs.
The result signals Reynolds’ sixth consecutive top three start, and his fifth front-row performance in six races.
Will Davison made it a Ford Performance Racing 1-2-3 in third ahead of Steve Owen, Craig Lowndes, James Courtney, Jonathon Webb, Fabian Coulthard, Jamie Whincup and Michael Patrizi.
Whincup sat in a lowly 15th with just three minutes remaining, before jumping briefly to fifth on his final set of tyres.
Failing to improve on his very last lap however ensured yesterday’s winner was knocked back to the fifth row of the grid.
Jacques Villeneuve will again start from the back of the field in the Pepsi Max Commodore – the former Formula 1 World Champion proving 0.7s slower than fellow back-row starter David Wall.
Race 15 around the Reid Park Street Circuit is set to get underway at 1535 local time.
