Will Davison has explained the ergonomic issue that led to him having an off in the second race of the Mount Panorama 500.

Davison was on course for a sixth place finish in Race 2 of the Repco Supercars Championship before making a mistake on Lap 30 at Murray’s Corner.

That allowed Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Jamie Whincup through to take the place, Davison finishing one second in arrears.

Speaking with Speedcafe.com, Davison revealed his pedal set-up wasn’t to his liking, ultimately leading to the Shell V-Power Racing Team driver hitting the brake and throttle simultaneously.

“We’ve got some things we couldn’t adjust on the weekend, which we can adjust for the next race,” said Davison.

“I was just having a few little issues just grabbing the brake and throttle together and just getting the pedals how I need them.

“That’s what I did a couple of times in that race then, just grabbed the throttle and brake. I think there was a bit of fluid down as well. I’m not sure.

“It was just sketchy. I was being very mindful of trying not to let it catch me out, but it did then.

“All those little comfort things, for sure, we understand what we need and we can just make a few amendments for Sandown.”

Earlier in the weekend, the 38-year-old noted a sense of relief to cut his first lap without incident.

Davison said he wasn’t suffering from any “rust” but said he was focused on getting acclimated to a new car and team.

“I wouldn’t say too rusty, just biding my time, taking my time,” said Davison.

“But that’s just probably experience more than anything else, trying to minimize mistakes, which was my whole aim for the weekend.

“I feel I’ll be back to a sort of winning sort of mentality very soon. At the moment, sort of top fives was a good result, and we’ll just build towards, obviously, gunning for wins.”

Davison left the opening round of the championship with finishes of third and seventh, placing him fourth in the drivers’ championship on 225 points.

The standings are currently led by Shane van Gisbergen of Red Bull Ampol Racing on 300 points followed by Chaz Mostert (Mobil 1 Appliances Online Racing) on 267 points while Mark Winterbottom (Irwin Racing) lies third with 231 points.

The Repco Supercars Championship resumes at Sandown International Motor Raceway on March 20-21.
