IRWIN Tools and Stone Brothers Racing have unveiled the #4 Ford Falcon that Alex Davison hopes will bring him more consistency in the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series.
2010 marks the second year of IRWIN with Stone Brothers Racing and Alex Davison in the driver’s seat, and while Davison has a lot of worldly racing experience, top results were few and far between for him last year.
Davison finished the 2009 season in 17th position, with a best result of second place at the Hidden Valley round in Darwin.
The vastly experienced Davison is setting his sights on scoring more podiums this season, and he nominates qualifying as the area he and the team need to focus on.
“The IRWIN Racing team’s best overall results last year came from weekends when we started towards the front,” he said.
“I believe our race pace will also improve (from last year) and that will bring better results and a championship position inside the top 10.”
SBR has reorganised its operations, with a third car joining the squad. Davison will be joined by fast New Zealnder Shane van Gisbergen and Tim Slade, with all three cars grouped together in pit-lane.
Davison is also set to benefit from the experience of David Stuart in his corner as his engineer. Stuart has worked with the SBR team since 2007, and was instrumental in engineering Jason Bright’s form turn-around in the latter half of last year’s championship.
“I’m really looking forward to working with David Stuart,” he said.
“He did some great things with Jason Bright last year and I worked with him during the long distance races a few years back at Dick Johnson Racing. We are both very driven people and have become good friends, so together we are looking at going to the next level.”
Stuart will act as team manager for the three cars, as well as Davison’s race day engineer.
The launch of the IRWIN Tools Ford coincides with the revealing of a new IRWIN logo which is displayed on the bonnet and doors of the FG Falcon.
The IRWIN Tools Falcon will hit the track for the first time this year at the official V8 Supercars test at Queensland Raceway on February 9.
The V8 Supercar Championship Series gets underway with back-to-back weekends in the Middle East, beginning in Abu Dhabi on February 18-20.
