Donington Park will host the MotoGP British Grand Prix next year after being electing to host the event by the Circuit of Wales and Dorna Sports.
The all new Circuit of Wales at Ebbw Vale, which is yet to be constructed, won the rights to host the British Grand Prix until 2019, but will not be ready in time to host next year’s race.
As a result, the circuit, which has an option to extend its rights contract until 2024, has agreed a deal with Donington Park to host the 2015 British Grand Prix, before the event moves to Wales in 2016.
Donington Park last hosted the British Grand Prix in 2008 before the race moved to Silverstone the following year.
“After announcing the long-term MotoGP agreement between Dorna and the Circuit of Wales three weeks ago our priority has been to agree the venue for 2015,” explained Chris Herring of the Circuit of Wales.
“It is in the interests of everyone, especially the fans, to make a decision as soon as possible and in Donington Park we have a venue that shares our vision for growing MotoGP in the UK.”
The date of the 2015 British Grand Prix is yet to be revealed.
