The prize for the recently announced Shannons Supercar Showdown is expected to include an entry in the Dunlop Series’ Homebush season finale.

As reported last week, the reality television program will return for a third season in September under a revised format.

After two years offering a seat in the Bathurst 1000 under the wing of Kelly Racing, the Media Mix-produced program has linked with Ford Performance Racing for 2013.

Initially announced as a competition for a testing contract with FPR, Speedcafe.com has learned that plans for a Homebush Dunlop Series outing are currently being finalised.

FPR team principal Tim Edwards declined to comment on any aspects of the show’s prize when approached by Speedcafe.com at the weekend, saying simply that “all will be revealed in due course”.

It is expected that the entry will be run by Minda Motorsport, which currently fields two ex-Garry Rogers Motorsport Holdens in the Dunlop Series, and ran the Shannons Holden at Bathurst last year.

Minda prepares cars for a variety of Australian circuit racing categories, and is likely to be charged with the task of co-ordinating the various driving challenges that will take place as part of the show at Calder Park in Melbourne.

FPR currently has the Falcon that Chaz Mostert raced in the 2012 Dunlop Series in its Melbourne workshop, although it is not certain that car will be run at Homebush.

Prior to partnering with FPR, the show’s organisers discussed the idea of continuing to field a car in the Bathurst 1000 with a number of teams, but the advent of the Car of the Future and scarcity of spare cars rendered the plan unviable.

All eight contestants for the 2013 program have already been selected and will be revealed in the coming weeks.
