Dunlop wins final race of 2017 Isle of Man TT

Michael Dunlop

Michael Dunlop has won the Isle of Man Senior TT race, in an affair which was shortened due to a crash that saw Ian Hutchinson break a femur.

The race was originally scheduled for six laps but was red flagged after two when Hutchinson (BMW) crashed at the 27th milestone.

The 16-time TT winner was conscious but taken to hospital by airmed where the fracture was confirmed.

Dunlop (Suzuki) took control when the race restarted, leading all the way as he took a 15th win at the Isle of Man TT.

Peter Hickman (BMW), who held a 0.18s lead over Hutchinson when the race was red flagged, finished second, having taken over that position midway through Lap 1 of the restarted race.

The result was Hickman’s fifth podium in as many starts at the 2017 Isle of Man TT, giving him the Joey Dunlop Championship for the event overall.

Dean Harrison (Kawasaki) was involved in an early battle for the minor placings before tightening his grip on third and carrying the position to the finish of the now four-lap race.

Earlier, Ben and Tom Birchall won Race 2 of the Formula 2 Sidecar race, having taken over the lead on Lap 1 and never losing it thereafter.

In TT Zero, New Zealander Bruce Anstey led the entire lap of the race to take a commanding 41.4s victory.
