Formula 1’s controversial elimination qualifying format will now continue at the Bahrain Grand Prix after bosses failed to reach an agreement.
However, resistance for a knee jerk change from the sport’s bosses saw a meeting of F1 Commission held on Thursday where two options were tabled for qualifying in Bahrain.
According to the BBC, one option was to keep the current qualifying format in its current guise with eliminations taking place every 90 seconds.
The other was to run a tweaked format with eliminations in Q1 and Q2 only, while the final segment of qualifying reverts to the older system.
A unanimous vote was unable to be reached leaving the sport to run the elimination qualifying system again in Bahrain next weekend.
It has been reported that a further review of the format will take place after Bahrain.
