German Maro Engel has led a one-two finish for Erebus Motorsport in the second 60 minute Australian GT Championship race of the weekend at Phillip Island.
Having finished a narrow second to Craig Lowndes’ Audi R8 on Saturday, Engel led home second placed Peter Hackett by an impressive 7.8s in Race 2.
Lowndes kept the pressure on the German over the course of the first stint, but proved unable to leap-frog his rival when completing an extra four laps before making his stop.
Klark Quinn emerged from the pitstop cycle with the lead after spending the first half of the race holding Hackett at bay.
Quinn, Engel, Hackett and Lowndes ran line astern early in the second stint before the German asserted his authority.
Quinn eventually dropped to fourth while the Nick O’Hallaron/Allan Simonsen Ferrari, Ash Samadi/Dean Grant Mosler, John Briggs Audi, Rod Salmon Audi, Dean Koutsoumidis/Andrew McInnes Lamborghini and Tony Defelice/Renato Loberto Ferrari rounded out the finishers.
The championship now heads to Surfers Paradise for the Armor All Gold Coast 600 in late October.
