ENTRY LISTS: Fields set for Shannons Nationals’ Ipswich return

Kane Rose will look to wrap up the second annual JRET this weekend

Kane Rose will look to wrap up the second annual JRET this weekend

The Shannons Nationals will return to Queensland Raceway for the first time in five years this weekend, with almost 140 competitors set to do battle across eight categories.

Round 4 of the Australian Manufacturers’ Championship headlines the event thanks to its twin 200km race format featuring Saturday night and Sunday evening races.

There’ll be plenty of eyes too on the Porsche Staff Solutions International GT3 Cup Challenge Series, which ventures to Ipswich for the first time in its short history in order to crown the winner of the 2012 Jim Richards Endurance Trophy.

Kane Rose currently leads both the GT3 Cup Challenge and three-race JRET standings, holding a slender four point advantage over John Modystach in the latter.

The 40 minute JRET race will be run into the twilight on Saturday night before a pair of 20 minute sprints complete the weekend on Sunday.

Nathan Garioch has picked up new support ahead of the Ipswich weekend

Nathan Garioch has picked up new support ahead of the Ipswich weekend

New paint has been the talking point ahead of Round 4 of the Kumho Tyres Australian V8 Touring Car Series, with points leader Josh Hunter’s Fernandez Motorpsort Ford set to take on the colours of Gold Coast firm Finance Ezi.

Hunter currently leads the standings by 33 points over Jim Pollicina after three of six rounds, with Aaron Tebb, Michael Bartsh, Justin Garioch and Chris Smerdon (who will miss this event due to business commitments) rounding out the top six.

As previously reported, Garioch will swap his ex-Britek Ford for an ex-Team Dynamik Holden this weekend, racing the VY in the black and white hues in which it was raced by the late Jason Richards while his regular mount is refurbished at Dick Johnson Racing.

Meanwhile, Justin’s brother Nathan Garioch will compete with a new look on his ex-Garry Rogers Motorsport Holden having picked up support from concrete cutting and drilling firm Razor Cut between events.

Phil Crompton

Phil Crompton’s new Mustang will make its debut

In the Kerrick Sports Sedan Series, Tony Ricciardello and Darren Hossack will both be out to upset local driver Kerry Baily, who enters the penultimate round 81 points ahead of Ricciardello.

Des Wall, who currently holds down third in the standings, will be absent from this round following recent surgery, leaving Phil Crompton’s recently completed Ford Mustang to join Shane Bradford’s Camaro in upholding the Trans Am honours.

The Radical Australia Cup, Dial Before You Dig Australian Saloon Car Series, Hi-Tec Oils Swift Australian Racing Series and Australian Superkart Championship complete the weekend’s racing program.
