Evans takes first Carrera Cup race win

Jaxon Evans has broken through for his maiden race win in the Carrera Cup withstanding race long pressure to cross the line first.

Starting second on the grid to David Wall, Evans got the jump off the start to head Alex Davison and Wall.

Davison then sat in behind Evans applying plenty of pressure to the rookie.

Then just after starting the final lap it was Davison who went too deep into Turn 1 and ran wide.

He did recover to finish third behind Wall and just in front of Dylan O’Keeffe.

It was a contrasting event for points leader Andre Heimgartner, who also got a great start, but then two incidents put him back down the order.

He was looking at third place after starting fourth, but ran wide on the exit of Turn 1 on the opening lap.

He was then pressuring O’Keeffe for fourth when he spun around at the same corner. The Sonic driver went on to finish in eighth.

Tim Miles scored first place in the Tag Heuer Carrera Challenge on his solo debut.

However, he had a battle with Stephen Grove which saw both of them off the circuit.

Sam Shahin assumed the lead, but Miles was able to track him down and finish first in the semi-professional category.

Sunday features two more races in the Carrera Cup set down for 12.30pm and 3.25pm local time.
