Forecasts of extreme wet weather for south east Queensland on Thursday has seen Erebus Motorsport postpone a planned test day for Ashley Walsh.

The 27-year-old was set to undertake one of his two rookie days at Queensland Raceway ahead of the Clipsal 500 Adelaide.

The team has this afternoon decided to postpone the day until later in the season amid forecasts that up to 300mm of rain will fall in the region across Thursday and Friday.

Walsh will now head to Adelaide with just two days under his belt with Erebus and its Mercedes-Benz AMG package.

Although disappointed to miss out on the extra running, Walsh told Speedcafe.com that a positive Sydney SuperTest earlier this month leaves him in good stead regardless.

“If I’d found the Sydney test to be difficult I probably would have been a bit worried about not being able to run,” he said.

“But I feel like we got through everything we wanted to at the test day and I felt quite comfortable, so I’ll go into Clipsal still feeling pretty good.

“There are a few things we probably won’t get to do (development wise) at Clipsal because of this, but in saying that there’s more running on the Friday than previous years, so we should be ok.”

Walsh begins his full-time V8 Supercars Championship career after four seasons in the Dunlop Series and two Pirtek Enduro Cup campaigns.

A race winner on the streets of Adelaide last year in the Dunlop Series, Walsh says his goal for his first race weekend with Erebus is to have a clean run.

“I really just want to walk away from Clipsal having finished every session and all the races without any hiccups,” he said.

“I feel if I can do that I’ll probably land somewhere in the top 15 and if I can come away from Clipsal with that I’ll feel it’s a success.

“But it’s really hard to gauge where you’ll be until you get there. It’s a very different style of track to Sydney.”
