Lando Norris is part of the ‘next-generation’ of Formula 1 star to challenge established names like Lewis Hamilton.

Test and reserve driver for McLaren in 2018, he earned a race drive with the Woking squad alongside Carlos Sainz the following year.

Norris’ career began racing Ginettas in the United Kingdom before winning the MSA Formula Championship in 2015 with eight wins from 30 starts.

There was more success a year later in Formula Renault 2.0, winning both the NEC and Eurocup competitions. He also won the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand at the start of the year.

Progressing to the Formula 3 European Championship for 2017, he won that competition and was second in the famed Macau Grand Prix. He was runner-up in the 2018 Formula 2 Championship too, racing alongside his duties as reserve driver with McLaren.

A promising young racer, Norris was forced to wait until the 2024 Miami Grand Prix for his first win, more than 100 races into his grand prix career.

It ended a frustrating run of near misses, going back to the 2021 Italian Grand Prix where he was runner up to then-team-mate Daniel Ricciardo before sliding off the road in wet conditions while leading in the closing laps in Russia next time out.

Norris’ first podium came in the opening round of the 2020 season, finishing third in Austria in what would be the high point of the year.

There were more podiums in 2021, including second in Italy to Ricciardo to deliver McLaren a one-two result, though podiums were more difficult to come by in 2022. He scored just one, at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola.

McLaren made rapid progress during the 2023 season, with the introduction of what, in effect, was a b-spec car for Norris at the Austrian Grand Prix.

There, he raced to fourth before finishing second in both the British and Hungarian Grands Prix. There were five more podiums in the back end of the year, four of the second places, as he watched team-mate Oscar Piastri win the F1 Sprint in Qatar.

He finally got the monkey off his back in Round 6 of the 2024 season, benefitting from good car pace, solid strategy, and a well-time Safety Car to beat Max Verstappen in Miami.

Norris is regarded as a world championship contender when given the right equipment, and has begun to reap the benefits of his loyalty to McLaren as the team’s fortunes improve.

Norris is also active on social media, often streaming and running his own Qaudrant content creation business outside of F1.

He is the son of Adam Norris, who has an estimated worth of over £200 million.
