Seventeen-year-old Formula Ford driver Chelsea Angelo will sample Evans Motorsport’s Dunlop Series V8 Supercar at Winton later this month.
Angelo drives an Evans prepared Mygale in the Victorian Formula Ford Championship, taking a maiden race win last time out at Sandown.
The victory was the first for a female driver in a national specification Australian Formula Ford since Leanne Tander’ s triumph at Phillip Island in 2000.
Angelo’s first V8 Supercar laps will come in Evans’ Ford Performance Racing-built Ford Falcon FG that it is campaigning in the 2013 Dunlop Series with driver Kristian Lindbom.
The OzStaff-backed Falcon has been one of the standouts across the first two rounds of this year’s Dunlop Series, with Lindbom sitting third in points after two of seven rounds.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity and the team has made it clear there’s no expectation on me, so I can just go out, do a few laps and enjoy myself,” said Angelo of her upcoming V8 Supercar hit-out, which will take place during a team test day on June 25.
“We’ve done a seat fitting and I’m pretty comfortable in the car so I can’t wait to get in and have a run.”
Team principal Josh Evans said that the test is a reward for Angelo’s hard work with the team over the last six months.
“It’s just a bit of experience for her, there’s nothing more in the test than giving her a bit of a reward for all the hard work she has been putting in,” he said.
“Having the V8 program in the team structure means we can give our young drivers an opportunity to experience the power and feel of that type of car if that’s the career path they want to follow.”
The Dunlop Series is currently in the midst of a two-month break ahead of Round 3 at Townsville in early July.
