Filipino driver Enzo Pastor has his sights firmly set on being amongst the V8 Supercars field should the championship visit his home country in 2013.
The Manila born 29-year-old had his first test of a V8 Supercar today at Queensland Raceway with TeamVodafone, following an evaluation session at Paul Morris’ V8 Superschool on Tuesday.
Pastor, whose racing experience includes stints in Asian Formula Renault, Formula 3 and touring car racing as well as a recent outing in the V8-powerd RACECAR Euro class, was invited to Australia by V8 Supercars, which is currently in discussions with the Filipino government to hold a V8 Supercars event from 2013.
While heavy rain threatened to spoil today’s on-track activities, Pastor enjoyed laps as passenger in a road car alongside Mark Skaife, before driving TeamVodafone’s ride car in both wet and dry conditions.
Pastor says today’s test was just a step in preparing for the possibility of racing in the V8 Supercars Championship field.
“V8 Supercars got in contact with me, because they are going to be hosting a race in the Philippines, and they thought it would be a good thing to have a Filipino driver running in 2013,” Pastor explained to Speedcafe.com.
“They thought if they could develop a driver and get them used to the cars, then hopefully by that time they’d be a front-runner.
“We’re looking into running the Fujitsu Series next year to build me up for the main race.”
