EJ Viso has warmed up for his Stadium Super Trucks drive in Townsville with a brief test aboard a V8 Supercar.
The 31-year-old chalked up a handful of laps at the wheel of Renee Gracie’s Dunlop Series Ford Falcon at Queensland Raceway last week.
Viso’s run took place during a half day test for Gracie, who was preparing for the fourth round of Supercars second tier series.
The laps were organised through team owner Paul Morris, who has become friends with Viso through the Super Truck category.
Venezuelan touring car rookie Viso says the run has increased his interest in trying to secure a future drive in the Supercars Championship.
The former open-wheel racer has made sporadic appearances in IndyCar since 2008, with his last drive arriving in 2013.
“The car has very different characteristics to what I am used to,” Viso told Speedcafe.com.
“You have to rely a lot more on the tyres and there is a lack of grip. It keeps you very busy in the car.
“After six laps it is very difficult to talk abut all the features of the car, but it is definitely powerful with a big engine and lacks grip, which makes it very fun to drive.
“If in the future there is an opportunity to race a V8 Supercar then I would be more than happy to experience that.
“Bathurst is one of the big ones and any race car driver should have that on their resume. I would love to do it one day.”
This weekend Viso will pilot a Mount Margaret Estate backed Super Truck in what will be his first visit to Townsville.
“I’m excited about this weekend. I have seen the track on Youtube and I think it is going to be very challenging with a mix of fast and slow corners,” added Viso.
“I love racing in Australia and the fans are very passionate about their motorsport here.
“I have been enjoying racing in the Super Trucks. It is a fun place to be.”
