Foster wins second-straight Carrera Cup round

Foster is now third in the points standings

Nick Foster has scored his second-straight round win in the Carrera Cup with victory in the final race at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Foster was second across the line to Dave Russell, but was awarded the win after Russell was given a 5-second time penalty for a jump-start.

As was the case in the opening race of the weekend where Foster jumped the start and the race win went the way of Matt Campbell; he shadowed Russell to ensure that the time difference never got more than two seconds.

After Campbell took the opening two races, he finished back in fifth after a slow get away at the start, before contact with Shae Davies while battling for fourth.

Still for Campbell two race wins along with today’s result saw him finish second overall for the weekend. Russell third overall for the weekend.

Second in today’s race was multiple champion Craig Baird, who also gained some points back on championship leader Steve Richards.

After failing to finish in the second race, the defending champion charged from the rear in today’s race to finish eighth.

In the Tag Heuer Carrera Challenge Shane Smollen took the race victory and overall win for the weekend to make it three-straight in the semi-pro category.

Second overall was defending series champion Stephen Grove with James Bergmuller in third.

The Carrera Cup’s final three rounds of the season all follow the V8 Endurance rounds at Sandown, Bathurst and the Gold Coast.
