Mark Winterbottom ended Triple Eight’s streak of Armor All Pole Awards by topping the Top 10 Shootout ahead of Race 15 in Townsville.

The Bottle-O Ford driver was the eighth out in the Shootout, clocking 1:12.41s to bump previous fast-man Craig Lowndes from P1 by 0.1s.

Red Bull duo Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen subsequently slotted into third and fourth respectively, failing to repeat their front-row efforts from yesterday.

David Reynolds will start fifth, joining the top four in lapping quicker than Van Gisbergen’s provisional pole time from this morning’s qualifying.

“The car in qualifying was average and the track was low in grip,” smiled Winterbottom after ending Triple Eight’s three-race run of poles.

“It gripped up between sessions and we worked hard on the car.

“It’s awesome to get a pole position. Bring on the race.”

Scott McLaughlin, Chaz Mostert, Will Davison, Scott Pye and Garth Tander will fill sixth through 10th on the grid for the 200km race.

The race is scheduled to get underway at 1610 local time.
