Cameron McConville will co-drive with Nick Percat in all three Pirtek Enduro Cup events following the late withdrawal of British GT ace Oliver Gavin.

Despite being unavailable for Sandown due to the clashing Austin WeatherTech SportsCar event, Gavin had been slated to link with Percat at Bathurst and the Gold Coast for a third consecutive year.

A decision by Gavin’s Corvette Racing squad to schedule a tyre test over the Gold Coast weekend now means that the five-time Le Mans class winner has relinquished his Supercars seat altogether.

The news comes amid a difficult season for LDM, which is without a top 10 finish since Percat’s Clipsal 500 win in March.

“When the tyre test was scheduled, Oli immediately knew he couldn’t put his best foot forward in just one race,” explained Percat.

“He’s professional and knows what’s best for me and LDM, and we understand where his priorities lie.

“Obviously we’re disappointed Oli’s not able to race with us, but we’re also pleased Cameron is able to step in.

“Cam and I have been close since we were both co-drivers at the Holden Racing Team, he’s a quality, race winning driver and we know he will do a great job.”

McConville had already been scheduled to race with Percat at Sandown, driving the #222 Holden in practice at Winton and Ipswich earlier this year.

The 42-year-old has not contested the enduros since 2012, but has done plenty of recent racing after stepping away from his job at CAMS.

“Last month I was just carrying the oranges, but now I’ve come off the bench and am in the game – it’s all unexpected, but I’m excited,” McConville said.

“I was happy to co-drive with Nick just at Sandown, but Oli’s Corvette commitments take priority and it’s opened up a welcome opportunity for me.

“My intentions were to see how Sandown went before throwing my hat into the ring for a full enduro campaign next year, but that’s changed.

“I’ve kept sharp racing other categories, as well as having some laps in Nick’s Commodore.

“I’m confident I can do a good job for (team owner) Lucas, Nick, and the team.”

LDM is yet to confirm a co-driver for its second Pirtek Enduro Cup seat alongside Andre Heimgartner.
