Australian touring car legend Glenn Seton will return to the Touring Car Masters field this weekend, adding to the 50th year celebrations of the Bathurst endurance race.
Arguably the greatest driver to have never won the Bathurst 1000, Seton will take over Doug Westwood’s 1971 Ford Falcon GTHO.
Seton is back to defend his round victory from last year’s TCM round, where he held of the late Jason Richards to claim his first victory of any category at the mountain.
The 2012 TCM Bathurst round will be his first event of the season as he has scaled back his driving duties to spend more time at home on the Gold Coast.
“To now be involved with such an iconic event on such a special weekend, in a series of cars from the era at the heart of Bathurst, and in a car similar to one my father drove while I dreamed from the garage, there’s nothing better,” he said.
“Coming off of last year’s success in this series at the wheel of the XB, it’s going to be another great experience to take Doug’s (Westwood) GTHO out. To have had the offer of driving the car, with the number 30 from my many years here back on the door, after the work the team have put in to go to the next level, I’m appreciative and I’m excited to soon be arriving at the track.”
Having Seton join the series will be a boost for the category and will be sure to keep race fans satisfied when he goes into battle with old sparring partners John Bowe, Jim Richards and Andrew Miedecke.
Up until the last round at Sandown it has been Bowe who has dominated the 2012 season in his 1969 Ford Mustang.
Richards was able to hit back with a consistent showing at Sandown and will be looking to take some more points of Bowe this weekend in what is the penultimate round of the championship.
The TCM will be on track from 0835 AEST on Thursday with their first practice session.
