Supercars drivers Todd Hazelwood and Chaz Mostert will headline Round 4 of the Australian Production Cars Series this weekend at Queensland Raceway’s Shannons Nationals round.
Hazelwood will team up with sponsor Scott Turner of Pulse Capital in the same BMW 130i which the Dunlop Super2 Series leader shared with Robert Rubis for a class victory in April’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.
Turner was to have also been in the seat for that campaign but had to pull out due to licencing issues.
“Scott Turner actually put the deal together for me at Bathurst 6 Hour,” Hazelwood told Speedcafe.com.
“He was actually going to race himself but didn’t get a licence in time to pull the deal off, so one of his other mates and myself raced at the Bathurst together, which was originally meant to be a three-driver assault.
“Obviously, this weekend he’s got a licence ready and we can now race together for the first time.”
While Turner returns to racing after a number of years out of driving, the start is set to be a one-off for Hazelwood for the time being.
Their #40 BMW will race in Class C as it did when taking a class victory and 18th outright at Bathurst.
Chaz Mostert continues to share an outright contending Class A1 Ford Focus RS with Nathan Morcom as part of a 26-car entry list.
The pair won the Sunday race in Round 2 at Winton in the DPO-backed Ford, before both missed Round 3 at Sydney Motorsport Park due to a clash with the Watpac Townsville 400.
The drive is as per Mostert’s plans to contest all APC rounds except for that clash.
Reigning Australian Production Car champion Beric Lynton and co-driver Tim Leahey will make their return this weekend after missing Winton and Sydney Motorsport Park due to the former’s work commitments.
Bob Pearson heads the standings after sweeping all four races at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Australian Production Cars will hold a 300km race on Saturday and Sunday, the former being the traditional ‘Fight in the Night’ starting at 1615 local time/AEST.
Also on the program are Australian GT Trophy, GT3 Cup Challenge, Australian Prototype Series, and Series X3 Queensland.
