The Holden Racing Team Commodores will be emblazoned with the famous emblem of the Collingwood Magpies for the Wilson Security Sandown 500.
The bonnets of the factory VF Commodores for Garth Tander and James Courtney will run the black and white colours of the Collingwood Football Club.
The HRT revealed the one-off livery at the final training session for the Magpies who face Port Adelaide at the MCG in the Elimination final tomorrow night.
GM Holden’s Motorsport and Sponsorship manager Simon McNamara said the two iconic sporting organisations were crucial to the manufacturer’s marketing and sponsorship activity.
“The Holden Racing Team is our official factory racing team. It’s part of Holden’s DNA and has been consistently winning races over 20 years,” McNamara said.
“Our partnership with the Collingwood Football Club is only in its first year but it is already delivering spectacular results for Holden.”
“To bring two iconic Australian sports teams together, side-by-side, for an important event such as the Sandown 500 was only natural.”
Gold Coast-based Sydney-born Courtney, who won the 2010 V8 title while with Dick Johnson Racing, said the HRT and Magpie fans are cut from the same cloth.
“I may be a Sydney ‘westie’ but one thing I do know about AFL is that Collingwood supporters are just like HRT fans,” Courtney said.
“They are the most loyal and passionate of all fans.”
Courtney will be joined for Sandown and the remaining Pirtek Enduro Cup races (Bathurst and the Gold Coast) by four-times Bathurst 1000 winner Greg Murphy.
Tander will have Nick Percat as his co-driver for the trio of long distance events, bringing together the combination which won the Great Race in 2011.
