Adding to the growing list of livery tweaks at Phillip Island this weekend, IRWIN Racing has arrived for the L&H 500 with a new bonnet design.

The bonnet features one of IRWIN Tools’ most popular products – the Marathon Circular Saw blade with Weldtec technology.

The new design will debut at Phillip Island tomorrow and stay aboard the #4 IRWIN Racing Ford through Bathurst.

The car will be driven by regular driver Alex Davison and Australian international competitor David Brabham.

“Having just been released to the Australian market, we thought it perfect timing to raise some further awareness and incorporate the Marathon Circular Saw Blade with Weldec into the design of the IRWIN Ford Falcon,” said IRWIN Tools’ David Watkins.

“Phillip Island and Bathurst being endurance events was also perfect, the Marathon circular saw blade with Weldtec technology is durable, fast and stands up to the rigours of the work-site.

“It will go the distance, which is exactly what IRWIN Racing needs to do to win at Phillip Island and Bathurst.”

An interesting fact is that on the two occasions that IRWIN Tools’ has put a Marathon product onto the bonnet of a racing car, it has won.

Marathon featured on the bonnet of the IRWIN Tools Roush Fenway Racing Ford in the NASCAR events at Daytona in 2007 and Talladega in 2009. On both occasions, driver Jamie McMurray won.

“This puts a bit of pressure on us doesn’t it,” said IRWIN Racing’s Alex Davison.

“I’ve heard a lot about how good Marathon products are, but based on what happened in those two NASCAR races I hope it brings us some luck.

“David (Brabham) and I will be working hard to give IRWIN its first race win, hopefully we can do it and give Marathon three-for-three.

“Apart from that, the bonnet looks really cool, I love the spark that’s coming from the blade!”

The V8 engines are turned on for the first of three practice sessions tomorrow at 11.30am tomorrow.
