Penske driver Joey Logano dominated the delayed NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase race at Charlotte.
The Ford pilot led 227 of the 334 laps to beat Stewart-Haas driver Kevin Harvick while Martin Truex jr (Furniture Row Racing) was third.
Logano has now gained immunity from elimination in the Contender component of the Chase.
He is one of the eight eligible drivers for the title in the Eliminator Round.
“This makes Talladega (October 25) way easier,” Logano said.
“I know that’s on everyone’s mind when this round starts and last year we won Kansas when it was the first race of this round and now we were able to get it this time at Charlotte.
“We’ll get lots of sleep here the next couple of weeks.”
Denny Hamlin, Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards filled positions four to six.
Dale Earnhardt jr, Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch all failed to finish on the lead lap.
Earnhardt jr was classified 28th, Kenseth 42nd and Busch 20th heading into the next two Contender races.
