John Bowe has continued his amazing run in the Touring car Masters series, winning all three races at the annual Muscle Car Masters meeting at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Competing on the newly-named Brabham Circuit (the extended version of the Eastern Creek facility), Bowe won both of today’s races, adding to his success in yesterday’s race.
The wins extend his title lead with two rounds of the popular series remaining.
Andrew Miedecke took second for the round, claiming a second and third place place. Jim Richards was third outright, taking fourth and second.
The three points races were followed by a special trophy race between the Touring Car Masters machines and the New Zealand-based Central Muscle Cars, featuring some well-known Australian stars. Bowe led the race comfortably until he suffered a rear left wheel issue. The problem saw Bowe peel into pitlane, with HQ Holden driver Shane Wigston taking the win ahead of Richards, Miedecke, former class champion Paul Stubber and Tony Edwards.
Two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Bowe praised the entire Muscle Car Masters event.
“This is a terrific event to be at – the crowd has been amazing, blitzing the expectations and proving that the motorsport fans still love their nostalgia,” Bowe said.
“I was a little bit quicker than Jim (Richards) in one area of the track and that allowed me to just get away from him in the one lap dash to the finish after the second Safety Car period, but it was a challenging one after lots of hard work to get the car ready for a new track.”
“My car makes the most awesome starts so that helps a lot, and Dick (Savy) gets her right where I need her so we’re really happy to be out there impressing again.”
In the Formula 5000 races, McRae GM1 driver Steve Ross won both races. Ross led home Roger Williams in Race 2, while Ken Smith fought back from a DNF in today’s first race to finish second in the final feature race.
In the other classes, Bill Trengrove steered his Ford Mustang to two wins in the Group Nb events, Rod Markland (Nissan Skyline) and Bill Pye (Ford Mustang) shared wins in Group A and C, Bruce Deihl (Holden Torana) and Bruce Anderson (Ford Mustang) took out the Central Muscle Car heats, while Andrew Williams dominated Group Nc in his Holden Torana XU1.
