Super sub Steven Johnson proved unstoppable on debut in the Touring Car Masters, taking four wins from four starts at Symmons Plains.

Driving John Bowe’s Mustang while the veteran attended a sponsor conference in Fiji, Johnson adapted quickly to the American muscle car.

The 40-year-old Queenslander won all three points races and the non-championship Shannons Tasmania Tourist Trophy feature.

Greg Crick proved the main challenger throughout the weekend, taking three second place finishes.

The only blemish on the local driver’s record came with a late spin in the opening heat, which dropped the Chrysler Charger from third to ninth.

Cameron Tilley’s consistent Valiant Pacer rounded out the round podium having scored a best result of third in Race 3.

Eddie Abelnica (Ford Falcon XB) and Jim Richards (AMC Javelin) completed the weekend’s top five.

Richards, who did not run in the wet practice on Friday, suffered throttle problems in qualifying which forced the seven-time Bathurst winner to fight through from the back of the field in Race 1.

Also in action supporting the V8 Supercars Championship at Symmons Plains was the Aussie Racing Car Series.

Local driver Adam Gowans proved the class of the ARC field in what is expected to be his last start in the class.

The former series winner, who has his car up for sale, took out races two and four on the way to the overall round win.

Adam Uebergang had won the opening heat and went on to secure second for the round ahead of Darren Chamberlin.

Ryan Cochran scored victory in the full reverse grid Race 3, which saw Gowans charge from the back to finish fifth.

The support program was completed by the local Sports GT category, which was won by Tony Warren’s Mitsubishi Evo VII.

Holden Commodore mounted Sam Walter and the Porsche GT3 of Adam Garwood made for a diverse round podium.
