Macauley Jones’ CoolDrive Commodore has been ruled out of Race 1 of the Supercars Championship this afternoon following a major crash in Practice 4.
Jones backed into the wall at high speed at Turn 9 of the Adelaide Parklands Circuit after a front-right brake failure in Car #21.
While the 24-year-old himself was unscathed, Brad Jones Racing has now called off its attempt to repair the car in time for the first leg of the Superloop Adelaide 500.
The team remain confident that a lengthy overnight repair will see the entry return to the grid tomorrow.
“The plan at the moment is to be back tomorrow,” team manager Tim Blanchard told Speedcafe.com.
“We are having a fair crack of putting everything together for tomorrow, but the damage is quite extensive and we don’t know what issues we are going to come across.
“There is a little bit of chassis damage but we have got our fabricator here from the workshop so he is making a judgement on that.
“There is a lot of cosmetic damage and it is going to be a late night.”
Jones was due to start the first race of his rookie Virgin Australia Supercars Championship season in 17th position.
The depleted, 23-car field is due for a race start for the 78-lapper at 1650 local time/1720 AEDT.
