The second season of Kelly Racing’s reality television program, the Shannons Supercar Showdown, is set to be aired in prime time on digital free-to-air station 7mate.
In a statement finally confirming the show’s return, the team has revealed that it will move from its previous Sunday afternoon time slot to 6:30pm Mondays.
The 10 episode program will again be backed by car insurer Shannons and feature 10 contestants vying to win a drive alongside Grant Denyer at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
The inaugural series was won by then 16-year-old Formula Ford driver Cameron Waters, who has this year stepped up to the Dunlop Series with the team.
Speedcafe.com understands that the field for the second season will include a range of drivers with recent experience in the Australian Formula Ford, Aussie Racing Car, V8 Ute, Carrera Cup and New Zealand V8 SuperTourer categories.
Two female drivers will be among the line-up, as well as a contender from the United States.
According to Kelly Racing co-owner Todd Kelly, the television program is a rewarding one for the team.
“Our sport has so many barriers to entry that identifying and testing new talent through the TV series means that hopefully we can unearth a future star of Australian motorsport.
“We are delighted with how Cameron Waters is developing, and Sam Reid who came third (last year) is also a regular track tester with Kelly Racing.”
The first episode is set to be aired on July 23.
