Kyle Busch has won his third straight race and fourth of the season with victory in one of NASCAR’s signature events, the Crown Royal presents the Jeff Kyle 400 at the Brickyard.
Busch, who missed the first 11 races of the season, is closing-in on the much-needed 30th place in points to qualify for the Chase for the Sprint Cup. He is now 23 points behind 30th-place Justin Allgaier.
Busch’s weekend at Indy also included victory on Saturday in the Xfinity Series race.
He completed the Brickyard sweep thanks to aggressive restarts, first with 10 laps to go and then again with two laps remaining.
Busch took on all challenges, including beating both Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano on re-starts to set-up the victory.
“I can’t believe this run right now, everybody is going to be tasting the rainbow tonight,” Busch said in Victory Lane, a nod to his Skittles sponsor.
“It’s really a treat to win here at Indy.”
Any hope of a storybook ending for Jeff Gordon at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was quickly dashed 50 laps into the race.
The five-time Brickyard champion made contact with the wall trying to avoid Clint Bowyer and suffered significant damage to his car. He had to go to the garage for repairs and was classified 42nd at the finish.
The race was the first to feature NASCAR’s new high drag package, which will also be in effect next month at Michigan International Speedway.
