Clipsal 500 organisers will confirm a twilight format for the 2014 V8 Supercars season-opener at an official event launch in Adelaide on Thursday.
Adelaide will be one of several V8 Supercars events running into the evening next year as the category aims to push into the primetime television market.
Although full details will be revealed at the launch, South Australian sports minister Leon Bignell told ABC Radio this morning that he expects on-track action to finish at approximately 8pm each day.
“Each year we always try to change things around a bit to make it more exciting,” he said.
Adelaide has hosted twilight racing in recent years for Carrera Cup and Australian GT support races.
Expectations for twilight V8 Supercars racing at the venue grew last month when the AGTC confirmed it would not return to the bill in 2014 after three years of a twilight Murray Walker Trophy.
V8 Supercars new-found thirst for twilight racing will kick-off at this year’s season-ending Sydney 500, where the Saturday race is scheduled to start at 1710.
The 2014 Clipsal 500 will run from February 27 to March 2, with Thursday’s Hindmarsh Square launch to be attended by drivers Will Davison, James Courtney, David Reynolds, Lee Holdsworth, Tim Slade and Rick Kelly.
