Leanne Tander is keen to explore opportunities in the Australian GT Championship after cutting laps in a GT3 car for the first time at Winton.

The reigning Australian Formula Ford Series winner was offered a 10 lap run in Steve McLaughlan’s newly re-shelled Jamec Pem Racing Audi R8 at the rural Victoria circuit on Thursday.

The car is the sister to the R8 GT3 driven by her husband Garth Tander in Australian GT and the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour earlier this month.

Impressed by the performance of the R8, Tander is keen to race a GT car although there are no plans in place at this stage to make a move into the Australian GT Championship.

“I think I would really love to race these cars,” Tander told Speedcafe.com.

“The only two categories I haven’t raced here (in Australia) are GT and Porsche Carrera Cup so I have got to tick those off at some point.

“I was really excited when Steve (McLaughlan) said I could have a drive and it was very nice of him to let me loose considering I haven’t driven a GT3 car before.

“It was a lot of fun but unfortunately the track conditions were not great so I didn’t get to push the car to its limit.

“It was good to see what all the hype was about.”

Tander, who contested this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour in a MARC Cars Australia entry, is yet to secure any drives for the 2017 season.
